On July 21, Consul General Fang Xinwen attended and delivered an address at an artificial intelligence forum hosted by the Melbourne Chapter of the China Chamber of Commerce in Australia (CCCA). The event drew nearly 100 participants, including Andy Song, Secretary-General of Australia’s National AI Committee and Associate Professor at RMIT University; Professor Edward Hovey from the School of Computing and Information Systems at the University of Melbourne and Executive Director of Melbourne Connect; Bian Lei, President of CCCA Melbourne Chapter; as well as representatives from investment and business sectors.

In his remarks, Consul General Fang noted that President Xi Jinping attended the 2026 World AI Conference and delivered a keynote speech. From four dimensions—development, security, civilisation and governance—the speech systematically elaborated China’s positions and propositions on artificial intelligence. It charted the course for building a fair and rational global AI governance system and provided actionable guidance to address worldwide challenges in AI governance. Upholding the people-centred and benevolent vision for AI development, China leverages its own progress in artificial intelligence to empower shared global advancement.

Consul General Fang pointed out that the continuous improvement of China-Australia relations has created favourable conditions for deepened bilateral cooperation on artificial intelligence. He expressed hope that both sides would jointly embrace and tackle the opportunities and challenges brought by AI development, and advance substantive, in-depth China-Australia collaboration in artificial intelligence.
