On June 28, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi had a phone call with Chief Advisor of the Presidency of Brazil Celso Luiz Nunes Amorim at the latter's request. Both sides expressed their willingness to fully implement a series of important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, and strengthen all-round mutually beneficial cooperation, so as to continuously inject strong impetus into the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership. The two sides focused on strategic coordination regarding BRICS cooperation. Wang Yi said that BRICS cooperation is the most important platform for solidarity and cooperation among developing countries and the most central mechanism on behalf of the South countries, which holds the ardent expectations of the developing countries. In the face of the major changes unseen in a century, the world hopes to hear more voices from BRICS and expects it to play a greater role. China and Brazil have the responsibility to run the BRICS mechanism well and boost its well-established credentials, so as to make new contributions to working for a multi-polar world, economic globalization, and greater democracy in international relations. Amorim said that under the current circumstances, BRICS has been playing an increasingly prominent role in promoting peace, stability and development. Brazil attaches great importance to China's role and influence as a major country, and stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China, jointly support South Africa's work as the BRICS chairmanship, make this year's BRICS Summit a success, and demonstrate BRICS solidarity. The two sides also had an exchange of views on the current situation in Ukraine and expressed their commitment to continuously working together for a political settlement of the crisis.
