Xi Jinping Exchanges Messages of Congratulations with President Tallis Obed Moses of Vanuatu on the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of China-Vanuatu Diplomatic Relations

On March 26, 2022, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with President Tallis Obed Moses of the Republic of Vanuatu to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Vanuatu.

Xi Jinping pointed out, since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Vanuatu 40 years ago, bilateral relations have withstood the tests of evolving international landscape, mutual political trust has been ever deepening, and bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields have borne fruitful outcomes, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. China and Vanuatu have rendered mutual assistance and fought shoulder to shoulder against the COVID-19 pandemic, which has deepened the friendship between the two countries. China-Vanuatu relations have become a model of mutual respect, solidarity and coordination between developing countries.

Xi Jinping stressed, I attach great importance to the development of China-Vanuatu relations, and stand ready to work with you to take the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties as a new starting point to deepen and expand dialogue, exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two countries, so as to push the China-Vanuatu comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights for the benefits of the two countries and two peoples.

Moses said, China has always been an important development partner and reliable friend of Vanuatu over the past 40 years. Vanuatu firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and hopes to take the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to constantly push forward bilateral relations. I would like to take this opportunity to extend congratulations on the outstanding achievements made by the Community Party of China (CPC) since its founding over 100 years ago, and wish in advance the 20th CPC National Congress a complete success.

On the same day, Premier Li Keqiang exchanged congratulatory messages with Prime Minister Bob Loughman of Vanuatu. Li Keqiang said, China attaches great importance to developing China-Vanuatu relations, and is ready to work with Vanuatu to take the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to seek greater synergy between the two countries' development strategies and fully tap the potential of pragmatic cooperation, so as to push for new and greater development of China-Vanuatu relations.

Loughman said, Vanuatu attaches great importance to the Vanuatu-China comprehensive strategic partnership, cherishes the fruitful cooperation between the two sides, and sincerely thanks China for continuously supporting its national development. Vanuatu expects to work with China to expand cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen coordination in multilateral fields, and constantly deepen bilateral relations.
