On June 28, the opening ceremony of the 2025 Chinese Film Week (Victoria) hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in Melbourne was successfully held in Ballarat. Around 500 people including Mr Fang Xinwen, Chinese Consul General in Melbourne, Hon Catherne King MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government of Australia, Juliana Addison MP, State member for Wendouree, Cr Tracey Hargreaves, Mayor of City of Ballarat, Ballarat Chinese-Australian Cultural Society President Michelle Philips, Vice President Charles Zhang and representatives of Cultural organizations,Chinese communities and local residents attended.
In his speech, Consul General Fang Xinwen said that cultural exchanges are an important part of China-Australia relations, and film is an important bridge to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries. It is hoped that the film week can deepen the understanding of Australian people of Chinese history, Chinese society, Chinese culture and the real life of the Chinese people, promote dialogue between Chinese and Australian civilizations, enhance mutual understanding and trust, and help China-Australia relations develop steadily and far-reaching.
In their speeches, Juliana Addison MP and Mayor Tracey Hargreaves welcomed the Chinese Film Week to Ballarat, saying that the holding of the film week will further enrich the local multiculturism and promote the people-to-people bond between China and Australia, and look forward to seeing more Chinese cultural activities in Ballarat in the future.
After the opening ceremony, the opening film "The Dumpling Queen" was screened. The protagonist's inspirational story aroused the audience's deep resonance with family, emotions and cultural roots. In the post-screening exchange session, the film critics actively shared their viewing experience.
